Automorphism Ensemble Decoding of Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes by Breaking Graph Symmetries

We consider automorphism ensemble decoding (AED) of quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Belief propagation (BP) on the conventional factor graph is equivariant to automorphisms and therefore prevents gains by AED. However, applying small modifications matrix at receiver side, we can break symmetry without changing code transmitter. This way, leverage a gain in error-correcting performance using an identical BP decoders, increasing worst-case latency. The proposed method demonstrated LDPC codes from CCSDS, 802.11n 5G standards produces 0.2 0.3 dB over decoding. Compared similarly performing saturated (SBP), algorithm reduces average latency more than eight times.
